Will Destiny 2 Have Cross Save & Cross Play?

Destiny 2 will be bringing its share of fresh stuff to the table, some of which we’ve covered in our Destiny 2 New Subclasses and Destiny 2 Weapon System articles. Also, the franchise will finally arrive to PC, albeit after the console launch. However, this has raised questions regarding the possibility of cross play and cross save functions between consoles and the PC. All kinds of rumors have been circling around the Destiny 2 community. Is there merit to any of them?

Unfortunately, we can debunk one of those rumors with certainty. Bungie has confirmed that Destiny 2 won’t have any cross save between consoles and PC. In an interview with US Gamer, when asked if players are stuck with their platform choice (we’re paraphrasing), Destiny 2 art director Mike Zak gave a short and straight answer: “Yeah.” He went on to say:

Hopefully, you’re going to find a platform where you’ve got friends and stick to that one. If you don’t, you can use our new Guided Games system for clans to make new friends.

Reading a little deeper into the statement, it’s fairly safe to assume that cross play is probably out of the question, as well. It seems like it’s a pretty categorical “no”. You’ll simply have to find which platform suits you best for any reason, and, well, stick to it. It shouldn’t be that hard, considering that Destiny 2 multiplayer is now 4v4.

Destiny 2 is coming to consoles on September 8th, 2017. The PC launch date has yet to be announced.
