The latest update for Fortnite, the birthday one, brought with it a new weapon, the Compact SMG. People started playing, and quite quickly, it was apparent that something had gone just a little bit wrong. Namely, the Compact SMG was an absolute beast of a weapon. So much so, that people have made Reddit posts compiling the different instances of the weapon absolutely mowing down people and tearing through buildings like paper. It became quite a problem, to the point where players started complaining to Epic, because the balance of the game was out of whack.

Well, Epic have heard the cries for help, and they’ve swooped in to fix the situation. They released a hotfix that nerfs the Compact SMG significantly, as well as the regular SMG, which, to be honest, was also a little OP. They released the patch notes on Reddit. First of all, the accuracy bonus of both the SMG and Compact SMG from 31% to 15%. The SMG damage is going down from 19/20/21 to 17/18/19, and the Compact SMG damage from 23/24 to 21/22. Both rifles’ fire rates are also getting a reduction; for the SMG, it’s going from 13 to 12, and the Compact SMG from 11 to 10.

Moving on, they’ve introduced damage falloff for SMG, Compact SMG, and Silenced SMG. Also, the range has been reduced from 2400/3500/5000 to 2000/3000/4000, and the percentage has gone down from 100/80/65% to 100/70/40%. Lastly, they’ve reduced Rare SMG and Compact SMGs drop rates slightly. So, there you go; the SMG and especially Compact SMG are no longer going to be the nightmare that they were.
