Gwent Technical Beta available on Playstation 4 this weekend

Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is, as its name says, a card game from The Witcher series. Well, technically from The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. The beta was previously made available on PC and Xbox One and it is now coming to PS4. It will be available from late Friday, March 31 to early Monday, April 3.

“And here we see the sorceress Yennefer playing her hand.”

Gwent is a turn-based, but also fast-paced game which requires quick thinking in best-of-three rounds, and it includes deck construction as part of the strategy. The cards, of course, contain characters from the game, using their powers and strengths, special abilities, magic and tricks. There are also the factions that are based on in-game nations, groups and factions, such as the Northern Realms, Nilfgaard or Skellige.

If you have played Gwent in The Witcher 3, you will be familiar with the basics, but make no mistake, this is a different beast altogether. The original Gwent game proved itself interesting enough to cause players to lose hours upon hours in-game. This, in turn, caused people to want to try themselves against living opponents. CD Projekt Red responded with a bigger, badder and more complex game.

CD Projekt Red have been busy little beavers, just today announcing that The Witcher game series has sold 25 million games since its inception. Unfortunately, there will be no more stories from the world of Witcher for the foreseeable future. The team is hard at work on Cyberpunk 2077, a futuristic RPG set in a world quite different from that of The Witcher.

Supposedly, Cyberpunk 2077 should be larger than Witcher 3. CD Projekt Red have proven themselves in the open world arena and it will be interesting to see what they can do with a completely new setting.

In the meantime, we will keep you posted on all things Gwent.
