PlayStation 5 Launch Date Could Be Three Years Away

It seems that gamers will have to wait quite a while until the PlayStation 5 comes out. Even though the PS4 is entering its twilight years, the PS5 is still some time away. According to PlayStation head honcho John Kodera, we won’t be seeing the next generation of the PlayStation for another three years.

PlayStation 5 Launch Date Could Be Three Years Away

Two days ago, the CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that the PlayStation 4 is entering the final stage of its life cycle. The gaming community has been abuzz with rumors and speculations ever since. For one, this means that, sooner than many of us would like, we’ll have to bid farewell to the beloved PS4. More importantly, however, this means that the new generation of the PlayStation is not too far away. People have been guessing as to when the PlayStation 5 would come out.

Well, according to the words of Kodera himself, the PlayStation 5 is still some way away. He said, according to the Wall Street Journal (via Gamespot): “We will use the next three years to prepare the next step, to crouch down so that we can jump higher in the future.” If this turns out to be true, and there’s no reason for it not to be, then we can expect to see the PS5 some time in 2021 or later. That being said, it’s worth noting that Kodera promised investors at Investor Relations Day they can expect growth after March 2021. So, I think we have two options here. Either they’ll release the PS5 during 2020 holiday season, or they will announce it some time around March 2021. Both options would definitely cause stocks to skyrocket.

Either way, the end of an era is on the horizon. The PlayStation 4 first came out back in November 2013, so it’ll soon be five years old. So far, it has sold over 79 million units, and it’s still going strong. There are still great exclusives coming out for the PS4 in the coming time. Hopefully, the PlayStation 5 will live up to its predecessor.
