Red Dead Redemption 2 Delayed Till Spring 2018, New Screenshots

Bad news for fans of western games today: Rockstar Games has moved the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2 to spring 2018. The reason for the delay is that the developers need more time in order to make the game as perfect as possible. This is the first game Rockstar has made from scratch for the new generation of consoles.

To the disappointment of many, the much-anticipated sequel to Red Dead Redemption won’t be happening in October 2017, as previously planned. In a recent post on the Rockstar website, the developers announced that they’re delaying Red Dead Redemption 2 until spring 2018. Here’s an excerpt from the post, explaining why the delay is necessary:

This outlaw epic set across the vast and unforgiving American heartland will be the first Rockstar game created from the ground up for the latest generation of console hardware, and some extra time is necessary to ensure that we can deliver the best experience possible for our fans.

We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready. We are really excited to bring you more details about the game this summer.

While a lot of players will certainly be ticked off by the news, this should really come as no surprise. Rockstar has a fairly consistent streak of delaying games, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s always better to endure another couple of months of waiting than to suffer through a game that was rushed out the door.

To make up for the situation at least somewhat, Rockstar also published new screenshots from the game, which you can check out in the gallery below.

Red Dead Redemption will be coming out for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. There aren’t many other details about the game as of now, other than the PS4 version having exclusive content.
