Thief 2014 Issues and Solutions

Thief Game crashes
Make sure you have the latest hardware drivers, and PC minimum requirements.
Verify the Thief Integrity Cache Files in Steam.
Make sure you have latest patch for the game installed.
If the game still crashes try increasing your virtual memory page file size.

Black screen after launching Thief
Run the game in framed / window mode (ALT+Enter). If this doesn’t help delete previous game’s saves. Make sure you back up your saves first.
Blackscreen issue can appear if you didn’t verify the Thief Integrity Cache Files in Steam.

Thief Bad graphics
Most problems with game optimizations can be solved by keeping Super Sampling Anti-Aliasing to low. The higher you set SSAA, the more graphic problems you’ll have.

Skipping Intro Videos
  1. Go to Thief\ThiefGame\Config
  2. Locate ThiefEngine.ini file and open it (use NotePad)
  3. Change StartupMovies=PROG_GUI_Video.StartupVideoPlayer to ;StartupMovies=PROG_GUI_Video.StartupVideoPlayer
  4. Save the changes

Thief Bad FPS Issues
If your computer fulfills the game’s requirements, make sure that your Hardware’s drivers are up to date. Running game in lowest graphic settings and resolution will also help. Disableing most of background applications will increase game performance and Framerates. Most DirectX 10 GPU users reported low FPS and lag issues.

Thief Sound Problems, delayed dialogues voices, and no cut-scenes sound
  • Install the latest sound drivers
  • Turn-off V-Sync for delayed sound.
  • Change the language
  • In Windows sound settings open Playback Devices, click on Speakers and choose Properties. Test the best sound performance.
