Anthem Getting "Substantial Reinvention" According to Bioware

Anthem has been a disaster ever since it launched. And sure, the developers have since done their best to spruce it up as best they could. However, nothing can change the fact that the game is just a boring slog that offers next to nothing to players for their troubles. Short of a complete overhaul, of course. And, according to a new blog post by Bioware’s general manager, Casey Hudson, that’s exactly what’s going on.

Anthem Getting “Substantial Reinvention” According to Bioware

You can check out Mr. Hudson’s full post on Bioware’s official blog. The basic gist of it, however, is that the developers are going to attempt a complete revamp of Anthem. And I do mean complete, because the post mentions reinventing the core gameplay loop, among other things. Here it is, straight from Mr. Hudson:

“So we recognize that there’s still more fundamental work to be done to bring out the full potential of the experience, and it will require a more substantial reinvention than an update or expansion. Over the coming months we will be focusing on a longer-term redesign of the experience, specifically working to reinvent the core gameplay loop with clear goals, motivating challenges and progression with meaningful rewards – while preserving the fun of flying and fighting in a vast science-fantasy setting. And to do that properly we’ll be doing something we’d like to have done more of the first time around – giving a focused team the time to test and iterate, focusing on gameplay first.”

Now, don’t worry, oh ye legions of Anthem fans, the game won’t be completely idle in the meantime. It won’t be full seasons, but there will be stuff. As Mr. Hudson puts it: “… we will continue to run the current version of Anthem, but move away from full seasons as the team works towards the future of Anthem. We’ll keep the game going with events, store refreshes, and revisiting past seasonal and cataclysm content – starting with our anniversary towards the end of the month.” So, there you have it. They’re building the whole game from the ground up again, but at least the store will be just fine.
