Mortal Shell 2 Axe & Dagger Weapon Location and How To Get It
Mortal Shell 2 is finally out, and one of the first things veteran players are hunting down is the returning fan-favorite weapon from the original game. This guide covers how to get Axe & Dagger in Mortal Shell 2, including where to find the Chapel Key and how to work through the puzzles inside the Shrine of Trials. Fair warning: the weapon isn’t sitting in the same spot it occupied during the open beta, so this article explains the location of the weapon in the launch version of the game.

Chapel Key Location in Mortal Shell 2
Before you can even think about picking up the axe and dagger, you need the Chapel Key. To get it, head to the Mushroom Village and look for a meadow with a burning pyre, where you’ll find a group of old ladies dancing around the flames. Defeat all of them, then make your way to an inconspicuous gate nearby. Look through the gate and you’ll notice it reveals a different reality behind it – walk through it and you’ll arrive at a large statue with a rope hanging off it. The Chapel Key is tied to that rope.

How to Complete the Shrine of Trials Dungeon
Now go back to the Chapel and use the key to enter the dungeon. It is called the Shrine of Trials. Inside the dungeon you’ll run into a handful of enemies right away. Clear them out, and you’ll likely get stuck at the same spot as I did: a large statue at the end of the corridor with no obvious way forward.
Puzzle 1 Solution: The King Statue Riddle
Inscription on the statue says, “Gaze upon your king so true. Back and back you shall pass through.” It’s tempting to start hitting the walls around the room looking for a hidden passage, but that’s not the trick. What you actually need to do is stand facing the statue and then dodge backwards twice. You do this by pressing B on your Xbox controller or circle on PlayStation while pulling down on the left stick. That input triggers the secret wall to open up, letting you continue deeper into the dungeon.
Pressure Plate Puzzle 2 Solution
Once you’re through the secret wall, deal with a few more enemies and you’ll spot a pressure plate on the floor. Standing on it directly won’t work – you simply can’t sprint through the passageway fast enough before it closes again. Instead, find the nearby pillar and hit it with your weapon. The pillar can only slide in one direction, which you can figure out by checking the markings on the floor below it. Push the pillar onto the pressure plate, and the passageway into the next room will open for good.
Pillars Puzzle 3 Solution
The next room has two pillars and two pressure plates to solve. First, move the rightmost pillar away from the door you entered through. You then hit the left pillar and slide it into the spot the right pillar was at. Finally, push that same pillar in the same direction towards the first pillar. That activates one of the two pressure plates.
Next, get to the pillar sitting in the top right corner. This time, use a heavy attack instead of a regular swing – a normal attack has a wide arc and will accidentally push both pillars at once, which you don’t want. The heavy attack lets you move just the one pillar precisely, landing both pillars on their respective pressure plates. That opens the final passageway, where a knight is waiting for you.
Axe & Dagger Location: Where to Find It
Survive the knight fight at the end of the Shrine of Trials and you’ll finally be able to pick up the Axe & Dagger weapon. It’s easy to see why this weapon built such a following in the original game – it’s fast, hits hard for its speed, and rewards aggressive, in-and-out combat. If you’re after a quicker alternative to some of the more sluggish starting weapons, this is the one to chase down early. The exact location of the chapel containing the Axe and Dagger can be seen on the screenshot of the in-game map below.

That’s the full map location and puzzle breakdown for how to get the Axe & Dagger weapon in Mortal Shell 2. The dungeon isn’t overly long, but the puzzles are easy to get stuck on if you don’t know the tricks – hopefully this saves you the trial and error and if you have any trouble check out the video below for a visual guide.
