How to Romance Anca in The Blood of Dawnwalker

Winning the heart of Laslea Glen’s resident herbalist, Anca, requires playing the long game. Her romance arc is woven deeply throughout The Blood of Dawnwalker, stretching from the tense opening hours of the prologue all the way to the narrative’s final acts. While you don’t need to choose every single flirtatious remark to successfully woo her, navigating her pivotal, narrative-defining moments is essential. Misstepping during her core character quests can permanently lock you out of her romance ending.

Meeting Anca in the Prologue: Withering Away – Page Turner

Your first real chance to build a connection with Anca comes during the prologue, in the quest Withering Away: Page Turner, where you need to get medicine to help your mother. You’ll meet Anca by the river where you can pay for her ingredients. During this quest you’ll end up at a manor, and Anca will ask you to stay behind to learn some Latin. When this happens, you can choose the dialogue option “How about this book with the red cover?” for some early flirting.

It is very important not to speak with Anca while in vampire form with low health thus, you might kill her. Also, skip staying with Anca and return to your mother to give her the medicine. Skipping this particular scene won’t hurt your chances with Anca. You can complete the rest of the flirt options throughout the story and still unlock her romance cutscene at the end.

Echoes of Silenced Bells

After the prologue, a new quest “Echoes of Silenced Bells” will become available, where you meet up with Anca again and head to St. Tyna’s Convent. When you talk to Anca about her scars choose “It must’ve been painful” choice. After defeating Leonica in the catacombs, choose “Pity we couldn’t do more for her“. During a ritual to save the souls of Anca’s fellow nuns, these are the choices:

  • This won’t end well.
  • There, take them.
  • Do not throw the notes into the fire

Between the Words

Completing this leads into the next quest, Between the Words where you two decipher clues in books:”Hope you had more luck than me“. During this quest you must brew Anca a cup of tea, and when she thanks you, choose “It’s my pleasure” then “There are better sources of joy than herbal brews” to keep the flirting going.

Later in the same quest, after reading a book together, choose “Always? What do you mean?” followed by “Your feelings towards me, it’s more than just faith, aren’t they?”

Where Old Devils Lie: Building the Relationship Further

The next romance-relevant quest is Where Old Devils Lie, though you’ll need to wait a full day or two after finishing the previous quest before it becomes available. At the start of this quest, choose “Thank you for trying to help me,” followed by “That’s what you see me as, a friend?“.

As you continue searching for a map together, once you get in the inn choose “Who knows what else I have in store for you?” for another flirtatious exchange. Later, when you sit together by the lake, pick the dialogue option “Something troubling you?” and then “I care about you, you know.”

Stronger Than Achilles: The Statue Choice and the Font

Once Where Old Devils Lie wraps up, you’ll move into Stronger Than Achilles, the final quest in Anca’s romance arc. At one point, while you’re in the ruins, you’ll need to place a hand into a statue, and you can choose either yourself or Anca to take the risk. It’s better to choose yourself here, since this unlocks the dialogue option “Better me than you“.

Later, when Anca reveals her desire to use the Font, choose:

  • You were hoping to use the Font yourself
  • I would, too, in your place.
  • I do anything for you
  • I love you.

You can still romance Anca regardless of what you decide to do with the Font itself, but the best outcome for her story is to let her use it rather than keeping its power for yourself. Making this choice ends the quest on the most positive note for Anca and sends you back to the inn to wrap things up.

Unlocking Anca’s Romance Ending

When you return to the inn after finishing Stronger Than Achilles, you’ll get the chance to bring up the fact that you told Anca you loved her back in the ruins. Choose “I beg to differ,” followed by “Screw decency, I want you, too.” After this exchange, Coen and Anca’s romance cutscene will finally play out.

Following these choices in order will let you romance Anca as Coen without missing any of the major story beats, while also steering her personal arc toward its happiest possible outcome.
