How to Romance Lacra in The Blood of Dawnwalker

Lacra is the only vrakhiri romance option, though her vampire status doesn’t necessarily mean she’s aligned with Dawnwalker’s big bad. She brings her own agenda and baggage to the relationship, which makes her one of the more layered characters to romance in Vale Sangora. Also don’t forget that you can start her missions only during the night, since Lacra is a vampire.

Starting the Romance: A Study in Crimson and A Friend Like This

To begin the Lacra romance, you first have to start and finish the “A Study in Crimson” quest with Vicho. At the end of that quest, he will mention that you should meet Lacra, which kicks off the quest A Friend Like This.

To advance the quest, simply head to the quest marker in the northern city district to examine the blood stains and destroy the roof tiles. Follow the trail until you reach Lacra, who will be questioning a captured Uriashi. Once you catch up with her, you’ll get a series of dialogue choices while interrogating the prisoner. Picking the right lines – and preventing him from dying – earns you useful information and impresses Lacra in the process.

The key dialogue choices during the interrogation are:

  • I need to know how to get to your village.
  • What did he do to you?
  • Do you know where the Varkid is?
  • Brencis is our common enemy.
  • Can the Elder meet us somewhere else?
  • Tell me or she interrogates you again.
  • I can talk to your corpse.
  • I’m not a regular vrakhir.
  • Lean in to hear him
  • No, Lacra, I got this.
  • Is it your choice to make?
  • You have my word.
  • I promise

Once you have the information you need, Lacra will suggest finishing the prisoner off – choose “You’re not killing him” to spare his life. She’ll grumble, but ultimately let him go, and this choice leaves her clearly impressed with you, setting the tone for the rest of the questline.

The Song of the Mountain Quest Choices

After finishing A Friend Like This, you’ll move on to The Song of the Mountain. Follow the quest until you reach the first dialogue choice, where Lacra has you feed. Reply with the “excellent” response option to keep building the relationship.

Continue through the quest until you reach the Uryashi matriarch. At this point, another set of dialogue prompts appears, and you’ll want to pick the following choices to keep things peaceful and progress the romance correctly:

  • All right, fine.
  • Lacra, calm down.
  • Nobody needs to die.
  • Can we stop with the hostilities?
  • We’ve already proven it.
  • What more proof do you need?
  • Do nothing
  • It’s clearly a test

Hive and Seek

Next up is the Hive and Seek quest, which doesn’t have any dialogue choices that matter for the Lacra romance – you can pick whatever you like here. At the end of the quest, you’re also given the option to let Isbrand in. It’s not confirmed whether this choice makes a difference to the overall story, but it’s safest to let him in just in case it affects later outcomes.

Rotten Roots Quest

After completing Hive and Seek, you’ll move on to the Rotten Roots quest. Continue through the quest until you reach part where Lacra will tell you to take the path on the right. You can also choose to take the stairs on the left, but this choice doesn’t appear to have any impact on the romance. Since the right path is quicker, it’s the recommended route. If you decide to go left, Lacra will leave you, but don’t worry, it’s temporarily.

The Night of Horrors

The Night of Horrors quest is the one that matters most for locking in Lacra’s romance, so pay close attention to the dialogue here. When you start the quest, there will be a cutscene in the swamps. After the cutscene, you’ll come across hostile soldiers. Don’t defeat enemies because it’ll advance the time and Night of Horrors quest will automatically fail.

During the quest you’ll get a conversation with Lacra about her past where you should pick supportive responses.

The dialogue choices to select during this exchange are:

  • I use to have dreams and other plans
  • I’ll thank his corpse
  • I should, but it wasn’t up to me
  • That they’re right
  • He couldn’t cope with losing her.
  • You sure this pain is worth it
  • Was it an arranged marriage?
  • I’m glad you found a way to survive
  • You don’t have to do this, I’ll take over
  • What happened to your husband?
  • Did you kill him?
  • What did you say to your husband?
  • He should’ve let you finish
  • Would you?
  • Yes. You had every right to your revenge.
  • I’m sorry you went through all that

Later in the quest you’ll need to tell Lacra your biggest fear, which requires choosing all the right dialogue options once again:

  • I didn’t take you for a quitter.
  • I struggle with my blood cravings.
  • Yes. And that’s the problem.
  • I wish I didn’t care anymore.

The Mandrake Choice and the Romance Ending

At the end of The Night of Horrors, you’re given a major decision: eat the mandrake, or don’t. If you want to unlock the romance scene with Lacra, you need to eat the mandrake yourself and then follow up with the correct dialogue choices:

  • Can vrakhiri get drunk?
  • Follow Lacra
  • Yeah, I’m over all of it.
  • drink
  • kiss her
