Hardwood, softwood and wood are crafting materials in Animal Crossing New Horizons. You’ll need them for pretty much every DIY recipe there is – you can’t make much without wood or timber. However, before you can get your hands on it, you’ll need a specialized tool. You can’t miss the opportunity to get it, but you might not have the patience to wait for it. If you’re having doubts, this guide will show you how to get hardwood, softwood and wood in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
How to get wood, hardwood and softwood?
Before you can start your career as a lumberjack, you’ll need to get an axe. Like most tools in New Horizons, you’ll need to craft it. But to do that, you’ll need the appropriate DIY recipe. You’ll get it from Tom Nook at a certain point. We got it after showing him a tiger butterfly we caught using the net. It might trigger after a certain number of creatures shown, or this specific creature.
Either way, Tom will reward you for your efforts in cataloguing the island’s wildlife by giving you a bunch of recipes that require wood, as well as the recipe for an axe. Once you’ve crafted an axe, simply approach any tree on the island and start whacking it. It’ll drop one of the three kinds of wood. When you approach the neatly cut logs, their name will pop up. You’ll soon learn to recognize them even without the text. Wood is brown, softwood is light brown, hardwood is dark brown.
Each tree will only drop a few pieces of wood, so you’ll need to do some walking if you require larger amounts of material. The resources will replenish after a while, but you won’t be able to just constantly milk that one particular tree that’s closest to your workbench.
