Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Doubles Down on Choice & Consequence

Assassin’s Creed has certainly come a long way since the beginning. One of the more interesting departures from the original concept is how much freedom the newer games have given players to role-play and develop their character. The newest game in the series, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, is going to push the envelope even further, according to the developers. So far, probably all of you know that you’ll have the choice of playing as either a man, Alexios, or a woman, Cassandra. That’s not all, though. According to a new video, which you can check out below, the devs are also making sure that dialogue choices and their consequences play a more prominent role.

We see several examples of this in the video. The first one is a woman that’s pestering you to help her with some bandits. She’s using some colorful language. You can choose to either take it, or return the aggression. If you choose to do the latter, you immediately see her demeanor change, and she becomes much more agreeable in that moment. Now, that choice might not play too big a role. However, some can open whole new quests for you, while others might shut them away. For example, the video shows us Alexios hiding behind the statue of Apollo (I think). A poor merchant woman asks for help, and you can either speak up or stay silent. If you choose to speak up, that will open a whole new quest for you, where you help the poor woman.

That’s just one example of what choices in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey carry with them. There will also be romance options, as well as rewards for certain choices, such as new quests, items, and so on. Of course, it’s unlikely that the main gear will be missable. But still, it’s cool to know that choices will carry some weight in the game. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is coming out on October 5th, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
