Does Avatar Frontiers of Pandora Have Third-Person Camera

We will have to disappoint you from the get-go. From the very first reveal trailer, the developers from Massive Entertainment have very clearly and unambiguously stated that Avatar Frontiers of Pandora is a first-person view game. It was designed to be played from that perspective in terms of gameplay mechanics and world design. In a recent interview for IGN, Ditte Deenfeldt, game director on Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, explained that their goal was for players to “feel immersed and feel like you’re really on Pandora”. According to his explanation, the real stars of the game are not the Na’vi. Rather, the protagonist is the moon of Pandora and its gorgeous, breathtaking landscapes.

Deenfeldt states that a third-person perspective simply does not allow that level of tactility, immersion and “sense of place”. The developers added that it also helps achieve a sense of scale. Due to Na’vi being three meters tall on average, players will be able to experience their world-view the best from a first-person camera. Hence, that’s another reason for this perspective. If you want to learn more about the decision-making behind the first-person view in Frontiers, make sure to check the full IGN interview we’ve linked above. Before we wrap up, we should note that the game does feature a section of gameplay which plays from a third-person perspective. Namely, when you ride your Ikran up in the air, the camera will switch to third-person.
