How to Fix Controller Movement Bug in Diablo 4 Season 1

Since the release of the pre-season 1 July 18th patch, players across all platforms are reporting issues with controller movement in Diablo 4. Namely, there seems to be some kind of issue with the analog stick movement. “After the patch controller movement is borked. Very sticky, clunky and doesn’t have full progressive movement,” writes Battle.net user BlueLion. “It now only has two speeds and has stops between the two speeds if you don’t push the analog stick fully.” Another user, that goes by the name IKEAboy, reports similar issues: “Moving with the analog stick now appears to have dead zones. I can no longer move slowly. It’s either a full stop or run. Previous to the patch yesterday, controller movement was silky smooth and very fine-tuned. Now it feels like my controller is experiencing short disconnects.”

The issue with analog stick controller movement in Diablo 4 Season 1 doesn’t seem to be tied to any particular platform. Players report the same issue on Xbox, PlayStation and PC. Luckily, there seems to be a temporary solution. At least until the developers fix the bug. According to reports by several players, what you need to do is to change deadzone settings. It seems that setting Outer Deadzone to 3 and Inner to 1 works for most players.

If the first solution doesn’t work for you, other players report that setting both dead zones between 3-5 worked better for them. Whatever works best for you, the solution is in the dead zone. Hence, experiment and see what works best for you. If you know of another workaround, share it with us in the comments section!
