How to Fix Diablo 4 Connection Issues, Lag, High Latency & Disconnections

The Diablo 4 Open Beta is finally here, and it comes with a lot to dive into. You will be able to play the Prologue and the entirety of Act 1, explore Fractured Peaks solo or in co-op, and try out the Barbarian, the Rogue, or the Sorcerer. However, given that this is still just the open beta, many issues are bound to happen. And that’s especially the case for the always-online game such as Diablo IV.

Firstly, among many other things, an army of fans will rush to try the game. This may cause servers to be overloaded with an influx of players trying to play. Check Diablo IV Server Status

The first thing you need to do is ensure that Diablo IV servers are up and running. As we’ve already mentioned, we are currently in the open beta stage of the game. Hence, server overloading, DDoS attacks, and instability may occur. If there are server issues, you should wait and try again later.

Check Your Internet Connection

It goes without saying but given that Diablo IV is an always-online game, a strong and stable Internet connection is imperative. Thus, make sure that your Internet is working properly and without any interference. Check out other online games and see if they are working without any issues. If possible, always use an Ethernet cable instead of a WiFi network. Unstable WiFi networks are one of the prime reasons behind Diablo 4 disconnections, lag, or high latency.

Restart Your Network Device

Sometimes, your Internet may run poorly due to issues caused by your modem/router. To prevent this, yous should power cycle your router. To do this, follow these instructions:

• Turn off your router.
• Unplug it from an electrical outlet.
• Leave it unplugged for around 2 to 5 minutes.
• Plug it back in and turn it on.

Additionally, Blizzard also advises factory resetting the router to fix configuration errors and update your router firmware “to ensure that your router has the latest bug fixes and instructions”. Contact your Internet provider and router manufacturer for more information.

Whitelist Diablo 4 in your Antivirus and Firewall Apps

Make sure that Diablo 4 is whitelisted in your antivirus and firewall apps. Your system protection apps must know that Diablo 4 can be trusted while going online, lest it can interfere when the game tries to connect to the servers, which may cause Diablo 4 disconnections, lag and other connection issues.

Release and Renew your IP & Flush your DNS

This final step is a bit more technical and requires more work, and that’s why we listed it as your final resort to fix Diablo 4 disconnections, lag, and high latency. Here’s what you will need to do, as explained by Blizzard:

1. While on the desktop, press Windows Key and type CMD.
2. Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
3. Type ipconfig /release in the command prompt and press the Enter/Return key on your keyboard.
4. Wait a few seconds for a reply that the IP address has been released.
5. Type ipconfig /renew in the command prompt and press the Enter/Return key on your keyboard.
6. Wait a few seconds for a reply that the IP address has been re-established.
7. Type ipconfig /flushdns in the command prompt and press the Enter/Return key on your keyboard.
8. Close the command prompt and attempt to make a connection.
