Can You Play Diablo 4 on Steam if You Own The Game on Battle.net?

Diablo 4 is officially coming to Steam, Blizzard has confirmed. The fourth sequel in the iconic action RPG hack and slash franchise is set to arrive on Steam on Tuesday, October 17th, to align with the start of Season 2. This will be the second Blizzard game to become available on Steam, following the launch of Overwatch 2 earlier this year. Given that Overwatch 2 has transitioned to a free-to-play model, everyone was able to play the game on Steam by simply installing the game via Steam. After all, it’s free. However, what about Diablo 4? If you own Diablo 4 on Battle.net, will you be able to play it on Steam for free? Unfortunately, although expected, the answer is no, you can not. You need to buy Diablo 4 again if you want to play on Steam, even if you already own the game on Battle.net.

Steam is a different storefront, owned by Valve. And it is simply not feasible from a legal point of view. It’s not much different than needing to buy a game on Xbox if you already own it on PlayStation, to give the best example. Naturally, many players won’t buy Diablo 4 again just to play it on Steam. However, Blizzard’s goal here is to attract new players from Steam, which might not have played the game otherwise. With that said, our “Do You Need to Buy Diablo 4 Again To Play on Steam” guide is completed.

In my free time, I dream of the day when I will finally start clearing my Steam backlog.
