Which Class to Choose in Dragon’s Dogma 2

While you will unlock other Vocations in DD2 in time, at the start of the game, you only have access to four. That is – Fighter, Archer, Mage, and Thief. Let’s start with the Fighter. Specializing in melee offense and defense, the Fighter fights with sword in one hand, and a shield in the other. A very effective class that is also straightforward to play, pick this if you prefer facing your opponents head-on.

Next, the Archer. The polar opposite to the Fighter, the Archer prefers to stay out of harm’s reach and pepper foes with arrows from afar. When paired with the right Pawn, you can play the Archer without worrying too much about enemies being able to catch up with you. As for the Mage, they come with with a number of restorative spells and beneficial enchantments. More of a supportive character in the beginning (though with some offensive capabilities that are only going to grow in strength as they gain power), they are going to need a Pawn that can act as a bodyguard to draw attention from them while they prepare casting their spells. Lastly, the Thief. While the Fighter is a methodical and defensive warrior, the Thief is all about speed and damage. Filling the role of a glass cannon, the Thief can evade attacks and cause massive damage with their well-placed strikes.

So, now that we know how classes work, which Vocation should you choose? This completely depends on what sort of character you enjoy playing. All of these Vocations can be very powerful if played correctly, so you really can’t make a wrong choice. Still, if you aren’t certain what to pick, the Fighter is a strong and straightforward early game pick. And if a Vocation isn’t to your liking, don’t worry, as it won’t take long for you to unlock the option to change your starting Vocation to something else.
