Stray Cat Customization Options

People have started asking whether will be cat customization options in Stray. I mean, the kitty is plenty cute already, but will the game let you change appearance? Is there maybe some kind of character creation, perhaps? Well, you might not like the answer when it comes to Stray character customization. Let’s begin.

Does Stray Have Customization Options?

No, Stray does not and most likely will not have character customization options. The publishers, Annapurna Interactive, have confirmed as much on Twitter. As they put it: “it’s the adventure of this particular cat, so no customization.” In other words, it seems that the developers, BlueTwelve Studio, feel that adding the ability to change your appearance would endanger their artistic vision. Or something to that effect, anyway. Whatever the reason is, bottom line, you won’t be able to engage in any manner of character creation or anything like that.

If you’ll allow me to editorialize, I’m perfectly fine with those choices. The devs want to take me on an eight-hour journey (longer if you hunt down collectibles) about this cat navigating the dangers of a dilapidated cyberpunk world. And to do that, they apparently need to stick to one specific cat. Alright, I’m ready to go along for the ride. I enjoy smaller, curated experiences way more than generic open worlds, and if the price is no Stray cat customization options, so be it. Well, the price is actually $30, which is just right for a game like this. I can’t wait.

Stray is coming out on July 19th, 2022. You can play it on PC, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. There’s no mention of an Xbox or Switch or any other ports, but who knows, maybe it will happen if the game is successful. I certainly hope it will be, because I want more games like this.
