Desperados 3 Coming Out on June 16th

After almost 15 years, we’re getting another Desperados game. Way back when, it was one of the rare games that scratched that Commandos itch that wasn’t, well, Commandos. Now there’s a new, modern sequel (prequel, actually, but let’s not get bogged down in details) coming out, and it’s being made by Mimimi Games, the team behind the brilliant Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun. They’ve finally revealed the release date for Desperados 3, and it’s closer than you might think. Actually, if you’ve read the title, it’s exactly when you think – June 16th.

Desperados 3 Coming Out on June 16th

The story takes place before the original game, and it’ll let you see how Cooper met some of the folks you already know as his associates, like Doc McCoy and Kate O’Hara. There are new characters as well – the burly trapper Hector and voodoo mama Isabelle. A nice mix of old and new, if you ask me.

Now if you’ve played Shadow Tactics – which you should have, if you have any interest in Commandos and its spawn – you already know what to expect. From what we’ve seen in the trailers, they’ve expanded the formula with a much more detailed system that lets you issue commands to several characters at the same time.

If you’re new to this, and are mildly frustrated by my constant repeating of the word “Commandos”, here’s what it’s all about. You lead a team of 2-5 characters on missions. The goals are always clear, but how you attain them is up to you. Each mission allows for a handful of approaches, which are dictated by the abilities of the characters. Each one of them is a specialist, and can do different things. Cooper, the leading man, can kill quietly with a knife or shoot multiple enemies at once. Hector has a bear trap and can deal with burly enemies using his axe. Doc has luers, a gas that can knock out enemies, poison syringes and a long-range weapon. Kate can dress up and pass behind enemy lines unbothered.

It’s one of those games where you spend a lot of time looking at the screen and thinking. If that sounds like your cup of tea, you can check out the new trailer and pen down June 16th in your calendar.
