Former Escapist Team Announces "Second Wind"

Boy, it sure has been a tumultuous couple of days for fans of The Escapist. Everything happened so fast, beginning with the firing of Editor-in-Chief Nick Calandra followed swiftly by mass resignations from pretty much every team member. This includes the legendary Yahtzee Croshaw, which signaled the ending of Zero Punctuation. Fortunately, the team hit the ground running, swiftly announcing their next venture, appropriately named “Second Wind” and emblazoned with a stylized phoenix.

“Second Wind” Revealed from Former Escapist Team Members

It’s an end of an era. The Escapist might continue limping on, but let’s be honest; without the creators that drove people to the site, I doubt they are going to be as popular as they used to be. Who knows; we’ll have to wait and see what the future holds. What we do know for certain is that the team, still lead by Nick Calandra, didn’t lose any time. Allow me to introduce Second Wind, their new company, featuring all your favorites like Yahtzee and others. The outlet will be “employee-owned and fully independent,” which is absolute music to my ears. You can follow them on YouTube, Twitch and Twitter, as well as support them on Patreon if you have the extra cash.

Now, we don’t exactly know what the Second Wind team has cooked up for us, but we will find out soon enough. Nick and Yahtzee are going to hold a live stream at 9 AM PT / 11 AM CT / 12 PM ET / 5 PM GMT / 6 PM CET. Presumably, they will lay out the future steps during the “event.” Personally, I’m extremely curious to see what they have in store. I’m going to miss Zero Punctuation, but I’m sure they’ll have something just like it. And don’t forget, you should always, always support independent companies and creators over huge corporations like GAMURS Group, who purchased the Escapist in September 2023. Good luck, Second Wind!
