When is Return to Moria Coming not on Steam?

The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is another unique LotR game to be released in 2023. Hopefully, it will not be an absolute disaster like Daedalic’s Gollum. Here, instead of legendary adventures across Middle Earth or some epic battles in a strategy game, we have an unexpected blend of the survival-crafting genre with the fictional world of J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth. Namely, in this game, we follow a group of dwarfs in their efforts to reestablish their homeland of Moria.

While the idea of playing this kind of game looks rather exciting for fans of LotR and survival games alike, what’s stopping many players from playing it immediately is the game’s availability. Namely, the game launches on October 25th exclusively on the Epic Games Store. On PlayStation 4, it will be released on December 5th, later this year. And for Xbox Series X/S, the launch is set for sometime in 2024. Unfortunately for those who want to play the game on Steam, publisher North Beach Games and Epic Games have struck a deal for the game to be published exclusively on the Epic Games Store.

When is Return to Moria Coming To Steam

Now that we know why the game is not on Steam let’s discuss the possible Return to Moria Steam release date. The game was revealed during the 2022 Epic Games Summer Showcase, indicating that there’s a deal between the two companies. Usually, the exclusivity deal between Epic Games and publishers is time-limited. Based on previous similar deals, the timed exclusivity commonly lasts for either six months or a full year.

However, neither of the companies has revealed details of the deal, so this is purely speculation on our part. The earliest we expect the game to appear on Steam is April 25, 2024. That’s exactly six months after the original release. However, it’s far more likely that we will have to wait at least a year before we see the game on Steam. Hence, our conclusion is that Return to Moria will not be released on Steam before October 25, 2025.
