Serious Sam 4 Story Trailer Is As Ridiculous As You'd Expect

I know that, technically, Serious Sam has always had a story. The thing is, said story has mattered even less than the story in the old DOOM games. You’re the gruff muscle-man. There’s alien monsters. Go and shoot them until there are no more. Who cares about anything else? Well, if the Serious Sam 4 story trailer is anything to go by, they made it so goofy this time around that I actually care.

Serious Sam 4 Story Trailer Is As Ridiculous As You’d Expect

Serious Sam is a game series that keeps its tongue firmly planted in the cheek, and they don’t even attempt to pretend otherwise. However, with the fourth numbered installments, things are so off the rails that the rails have become but a distant memory. Once again, we have the Earth overtaken by all manner of alien creature, and Sam and his gang of rebels have to take the enemies down. How are they gonna do that? By finding the Ark of the Covenant, within which lies the Holy Grail, which in itself is an alien artifact. Duh.

The story trailer, which you can check out below, mainly shows us locations in Italy; namely, we get to see Pompeii and the Vatican, as far as I can tell. It even includes a gigantic, fleshy, betentacled monstrosity in St. Peter’s Square, facing a heavily-armed mech. Looks like fun, if you ask me. There is, of course, a bunch of other drama that I’ll let you discover for yourself. I’ll just add that it features a trash-talking granny, in case you need further coercion to watch the trailer.

Serious Sam 4 is coming out on September 24th on PC via Steam, Google Stadia, and GOG.com. We won’t be seeing it on consoles (PS4 and Xbox One, to be exact) until some time in 2021. Why? As I understand it, they’ve signed an exclusivity deal with Stadia. I’m not sure whether that was the smartest move in the world, but what do I know?
