Sony announced the PS4 remake of Shadow of the Colossus during E3 2017. It should come out in 2018. In an interview with Famitsu, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said that the only thing changing in the Shadow of the Colossus remake is a new control scheme. Other than that and fresh new assets for the current console generation, the game will stay the same. Also, he said that the original creator of the game Fumito Ueda has little to do with the project.

In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Ueda-san confirmed this, stating that he’s keeping busy with creating a new game (YES!). However, despite the his low level of involvement, Ueda-san revealed that he submitted a list of changes he’d like to see to Sony. He was skiddish to reveal the details of this list, saying:

Those things of the remake that I would like to change, I can’t mention, because if I say one thing and in the final version that thing is not included, it’s a problem.

So, we’ll have to wait and see if Bluepoint decide to include any of Ueda-san’s ideas. Now, all fans of Shadow of the Colossus know that the final game had sixteen different colossi to fight. Ueda-san originally wanted 48 colossi in the game, later cutting the number down to 24. Due to various constraints, the final number ended up being sixteen. For all of us that hoped to see some of the unused colossi designs in the remake, Ueda-san had this to say:

In this game there are 16 enemies and there’s a story about 16 enemies, so to change this history… I don’t think about changing this history. It’s finished with 16 enemies. It’s OK.

Drat. Well, perhaps that’s for the best. To be honest, sixteen was just right. Maybe anything more than that would be too much. We’ll have to wait for 2018 and see what happens.
