The Surge Showcases Robo-Outfits in New Trailer

There’s a new trailer for The Surge, an SF RPG in development by folks behind Lords of The Fallen. The video focuses on combat targeting, crafting and fancy not-really-a-robot suits. It may sound like it’s all over the place, but it all ties together quite nicely. Scroll down to see the trailer and learn how to become the most fashionable of robots.

In case you’re not familiar with the game, here’s what it’s all about: You play an employee of CREO, a powerful corporation that’s supposedly invested in making things better for humankind. You get outfited with an exo rig just when everything goes to hell, and it turns out they’re not really the good guys they want people to see them as (gasp!). You’ll have to fight through CREO’s industrial complex in order to discover the truth and escape the mess.

Here’s how it works: your exosuit consists of six parts – two legs, two arms, a chest piece and a helmet. In order to get new rig pieces, you’ll have to craft them. You’ll have to collect crafting materials for this, naturally, but you’ll also need the relevant blueprints. You’ll get these crafting schematics by killing enemies. Focusing on a particular body part will increase the chance of getting the corresponding blueprint. So if you really want someone’s left leg, focus on it during combat, and you might get a blueprint that allows you to make a leg exactly like it for yourself.

The trailer shows off a lot of cool outfits as well – it makes me think of Destiny, in the best possible way. Some of the robo-outfits are really good looking, but there’s a nagging feeling in the back of my head that says we’ll mostly end up with a bunch of mismatched gear, looking like a junkyard clown instead of a badass exo pilot.

The Surge is going to be released on May 16th, on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. You can preorder it to get a discount and some in-game items that increase damage and help you find secrets.
