The IV Checker in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is a mechanic that lets you track the stats of your Pokemon. This is especially useful once you get far enough in the game where powering your Pokemon up as far as they will go becomes important. However, you won’t have access to it from the beginning; in fact, not for a long while. That being the case, we will show you how to unlock the IV checker in Scarlet and Violet, as well as how to check IVs.

How to Unlock IV Checker in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

To unlock the IV Checker in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you will have to get pretty far in the game. In fact, you need to finish the entirety of the Pokemon League story quest line. After you do that and get the Hall of Fame badge, go to the nearest Pokemon Center. Any one will do. Talk to the employees, and they’ll notice the badge you’re wearing. This unlocks the Judge function. I don’t know why the developers have decided to lock this mechanic away behind so much legwork. I feel like it didn’t have to be this complicated, but, well, it is what it is. The game has bigger problems than this. Anyway…

How to Check IVs in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Now that we know how to unlock the IV Checker in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, how do you actually check your Pokemon IVs. It’s easy. Open your Pokemon Box and highlight whichever Pokemon you want to check out. Press the + button on the right JoyCon, and you’ll see all of its IVs and EVs. That’s all there is to it. This is where I do concede that this mechanic is only really important in the post game, where you can comfortably start using the Bottle Caps for Hyper Training.
