SteamWorld Dig 2 To Be Released in Late September

Image &From Games has just announced that the long-anticipated sequel to SteamWorld Dig will be launched for both PS Vita and PlayStation 4 on September 26 in North America, and September 27 in Europe. If you want to have the game on both platforms, you will still only have to buy it once, you will get the other version free. SteamWorld Dig 2 will cost $19.99 in the US, €19.99 in the EU and £14.99 in the UK.

The Switch version is set for release on September 21, a few days ahead of the PS4 and Vita release. The exact date the PC version (on Steam, of course) will be released has not yet been published, but it should launch a few days later than the version for Switch.

The game is a sequel to the award-winning SteamWorld Dig! A Metroidvania-like platform mining adventure that is set right after the events from the first game. The player controls the new dig-bot, Dorothy (she appeared as a merchant in the first game), who was looking for Rusty, the protagonist from the last game who went missing. She has given up the search and moved to the city of El Machino, where she finds a reason to start exploring again.

The new game is supposed to eschew the procedurally generated content of its predecessor in lieu of custom designed maps. Since the biggest complaint regarding the first game was that there simply wasn’t enough of it, the second one is supposed to be much more expansive with more locations, characters and upgrades. It also allows for a more exploratory feel where abilities, items and upgrades are pieces to a puzzle that you’ll need to put together to advance.

All in all, (much) more of the same but better sounds like a great recipe when SteamWorld Dig is concerned.
