How to Reveal Traps in Baldur’s Gate 3

If you have ever played the original Baldur’s Gate games (1 and 2), you know just how devastatingly deadly these traps can be. Many of them can even instantly kill a party member if you’re not careful. And things are exactly the same in Baldur’s Gate 3. These sneaky and devious contraptions can decimate your party members’ health, as they deal heavy damage and often apply some negative status effects. Hence, it is essential to spot these snares in a timely manner, and then disarm them as quickly as possible. So, how to do it?

The first thing you need to do is to find them. In order to reveal a trap in BG3, the game will perform a Perception check. This happens automatically whenever you are near a trap. If any of your characters have sufficient enough perception, the trap will be revealed.

  • If the Perception check is successful, you will be able to interact with a trap.
  • However, if it fails, you should try with another character. It’s important to use a character with the highest Perception stat.

How to Disarm Traps in Baldur’s Gate 3

When you successfully find a trap, you will need to disarm it. In order to disarm a trap, you will need a Trap Disarm Toolkit. This item can be bought and found as loot all around the game’s world. How effective you will be in disarming a trap depends on the character’s Sleight of Hand skill level. The higher it is, the bigger the chances for success.

  • If the disarming is successful, you’ll get to keep the toolkit on top of disarming the trap.
  • If the attempt fails, the trap will activate, and you will lose the toolkit, on top of suffering from the trap.

Of course, there are always alternative methods. You can always hit a trap from an arrow, spells, or anything similar from a safe distance. This will activate the trap, but you will not suffer damage. Finally, you can also move any objects in your surrounding and place them above the trap, which would also trigger the trap.
