Will Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 feature DMZ? After several weeks of teasers and leaks, the next iteration of Call of Duty has been officially announced. For the first time in years, back-to-back Call of Duty games will be directly connected sequels, where MWIII continues the story where MW2 left off. However, what about the highly-popular DMZ mode? Is it making a return in MW3 (2023)? Here’s what we currently know.
Is DMZ going to be in MW3?
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, the direct sequel of the last year’s COD MW2, has been officially announced and there’s a lot to unpack. For now, however, the details are still sparse. That’s because Activision will gradually release new information as we are getting closer to the release day (November 10th), in order to build up the hype and make fans excited for the game. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean that we know nothing about the mode. And there’s one thing fans specifically want to know about. Namely, is DMZ going to be in MW3?
The Tarkov-inspired extraction mode has been a raging success since its launch, being one of the most well-received new additions to the franchise. Intense matches, interesting missions and rewards, and a unique way of playing attract a large number of players. And now these players are wondering if Activision will continue supporting DMZ once MW3 releases. While we currently have no official information on this, it’s safe to assume that the support for DMZ will continue. There’s no reason to think that such a successful new mode will be left behind. In fact, it seems that the success of DMZ has inspired Treyarch, who works on the new Zombies mode, to implement many of its features into this new Zombies experience.
Modern Warfare 3 Zombies – New DMZ Zombies Mode?
“For the first time, team up with other squads to survive and fight massive hordes of the undead in the largest Call of Duty Zombies map ever,” reads the official blog post about the new Zombies mode. “Expect to undertake missions across different regions that escalate in difficulty”. As you can see, based on this brief description, it sounds exactly like DMZ, just mixed up with the iconic COD Zombies mode. Here are some of the core elements of the new Zombies mode, which resemble what we already have in DMZ.
- Complete missions across different regions. (Same as in DMZ)
- Team up with other squads to survive and fight massive hordes of the undead. (Same as DMZ, but with zombies instead of enemy soldiers)
- A cavalcade of secrets to discover. (DMZ maps hide numerous secrets)
- Open-world player versus enemy (PvE) extraction survival experience. (DMZ is an extraction mode)
So there you have it. As you can see the new Zombies mode bears a striking similarity with DMZ in almost all aspects. It remains to be seen if there will be both DMZ and Zombies separately, or only this new amalgamate. For now, that’s all we know about DMZ in MW3. Nevertheless, we will make sure to update the article as soon as there’s new information.
