Much like The Witcher 3, it seems like Cyberpunk 2077 will be getting complete expansions after launch. At the very least, according to Alvin Lio, UI Coordinator, the devs are talking about the possibility. This isn’t to say that CD Projekt Red is going to hack out content to sell at a later date. Instead, it will be actual additional content that will supplement the full game, rather than being an integral, yet missing piece.
So, it seems there’s gonna be a ton of Cyberpunk 2077 to go around. And not just in the main game; there will likely be some hefty expansions, too. As UI Coordinator Alvin Liu told Prima Games: “We are talking about expansions in the future. We want to make sure everything’s complete, but we also want to build open worlds. I know when I was playing The Witcher 3 and I finished everything, I still want to know what everyone was up to. I think we’re going to have opportunities like that as well for Cyberpunk 2077.”
Now, given the current climate of the gaming industry, you might expect that the devs might hack the game into pieces and sell it to you later. Not the case with Cyberpunk 2077, according to Alvin Liu: “It’ll be a very rewarding ending. We’re not withholding content, we’re not withholding story for the future to try to, you know, monetize it or sell it in pieces or anything like that. You’re going to get the whole, full value game here.” In other words, like with The Witcher 3, you’re getting a full experience for your money. The expansions will be completely optional; additional experiences, rather than a missing piece of the puzzle.
And, I mean, what where you expecting? CDPR has a reputation that they want to uphold. Not because they care about you, but because they’re a company with a brand to protect. Regardless, though; for the consumer, it’s good scenario. Anyway, Cyberpunk 2077 is slated to launch on April 16th, 2020. You’ll be able to play it on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
