Elder Scrolls 6 Announced, Might Be Set in Hammerfell or High Rock

During their E3 2018 presentation, Bethesda have announced Elder Scrolls 6, and the general reaction seems to be one of surprise. Obviously, there are people who thought there wasn’t going to be a new ES game ever again, because Bethesda just keeps porting and re-releasing Skyrim (they’ve made fun of that themselves). Rest easy, ES6 is going to happen. And that’s pretty much all we know about it. They’ve released a short teaser as well. It’s pretty shallow to the untrained eye, but Tamriel lorehounds have already torn apart the video and started speculating.

Elder Scrolls 6 Announced, Might Be Set in Hammerfell or High Rock

The trailer is literally just the camera rolling over barren landscape with the sea in the background, and the Elder Scrolls 6 logo plastered across the screen. It’s thirty seconds of nothing much, truth be told. However, Reddit user ZypherMyth analyzed the footage and tried to place it on the map of Tamriel. Their findings were pretty conclusive – the game is going to take place in High Rock.

If you’re interested in the nitty-gritty, check out the entire post. Here’s the gist of the investigation – they first eliminated all provinces with landscape that is actually interesting to look at – Morowind, Black Marsh, Elsweyr, Valenwood, Summerset Isle. They also disregarded the other provinces we’ve visited in mainline ES games – Skyrim and Cyrodiil.

Looking at the position of the sun and the body of water in the distance, they concluded it could only be High Rock or Hammerfell. A lot of other fans seem to be placing their bets on Hammerfell, but ZypherMyth was adamant that the Alik’r desert stretches to the shores of Hammerfell, and what we see in the trailer is no desert. That’s not a strong case for High Rock, though – Bethesda has been known to retcon stuff when it suits them.

Since ES6 is still a ways away, we’ll have more than enough time to speculate about stuff like location, engine (a seemingly favorite topic with ES fans), and everything else.
