FF7 Remake Materia Locations

Materia are magical orbs that unlock abilities, powers and skills in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. There are dozens of them, and they’re divided into five categories – magic, command, support, summon and independent. Each category has its own color, and they can be slotted into weapons and armor. You should experiment with different combinations to see what fits your play style best, but be fore that, you’ll have to get some materia. In this guide, we’re going to show you a list of all FF7 Remake materia locations, to help you kickstart your collection.

Summon Materia Locations

Summon materia is red – it’s the kind used to summon… well, summons. We’ve already talked about it at length in our FF7 Remake summons guide – you’ll find a complete list and how to obtain each kind there. Most of them are obtained through Chadley, so prepare to spend some time with him.

Command Materia locations

Command materia is yellow, and unlocks new ATB moves. These don’t drain any MP when used.

  • Chakra materia – Tifa starts with it. You can find another in the Sector 5 church. It restores HP and cures poison.
  • Prayer materia – Aerith starts with it. Another can be obtained through Corneo’s Secret Stash quest in Chapter 14. Restores party HP.
  • Assess materia – Obtained automatically from Chadley when you first meet him. Gives info on enemies.
  • ATB Boost materia – Bought from Chadley after Battle Intel Report 4. Doubles ATB.
  • Steal materia – Bought from Chadley after completing Battle Intel Report 7. Allows you to steal gil and items from enemies.
  • Enemy Skill materia – Bought from Chadley after Battle Intel Report 16. Allows you to learn moves used by your enemies.

Magic Materia – where to find

Magic materia is the green one, and they’re the most numerous of the bunch. These are magic spells you can cast, using up both MP and ATB.

  • Fire materia – Cloud starts with it. Another can be bought from the item shop in Sector 7. Allows you to use fire magic.
  • Ice materia – Aerith starts with it. Another can be bought from the item shop in Sector 7. Allows you to use ice spells.
  • Lightning materia – Barret starts with it. Another can be bought from the item shop in Sector 7. Allows you to cast lightning spells.
  • Healing materia – Barret starts with it, and you’ll get another for free from Jessie in Chapter 2. Allows you to cast healing spells.
  • Wind materia – Bought from Chadley after completing Battle Intel Report 2. Allows you to cast wind magic.
  • Revival materia – Found in Chapter 4, while following Jessie. Allows you to revive KO’d party members.
  • Barrier materia – Automatically obtained in Chapter 4. Allows you to cast protective spells.
  • Poison materia – Bought from vending machines after Chapter 5. Lets you cast poison spells.
  • Binding materia – Found in Sector 6 slums. Allows you to cast debuffs on enemies.
  • Cleansing materia – Bought in Sector 7 after the Rat Problem quest. Allows you to remove debuffs from party members.
  • Subversion materia – Obtained from Ghoul, a boss in Chapter 11. Allows to break through enemy defenses.
  • Time materia – Obtained after finishing Missing Children quest in Chapter 14. Allows you to manipulate your ATB gauge.

Support materia – how to get

Support materia is used to improve the effects of other kinds of materia. It’s blue.

  • Elemental materia – Found in Chapter 6, in a hidden area in the Sector 4 Plate. Gives you elemental resistance when put into armor, or elemental damage when in a weapon.
  • Magnify materia – Reward from one of the puzzles in Sector 6 Slums. Allows your spells to affect more targets.
  • Warding materia – Found in the Chapter 10 sewers. Gives you resistance to the supported materia’s status effect.
  • Pedometer materia – Found in Chapter 14, close to Aerith’s house. Turns into AP up materia after you’ve taken 5000 steps with it.
  • AP up materia – Take 5000 steps with Pedometer materia. Increases AP gain for supported materia.
  • Synergy materia – Bought from Chadley after Battle Intel Report 9. Allows a companion to complement your attack with an attack of the same element.
  • MP absoprtion materia – Bought from Chadley after Battle Intel Report 18. Attocks of the supported materia’s element replenish MP.
  • HP absorption materia – Bought from Chadley after Battle Intel Report 19. Attacks of the supported materia’s element will replenish HP.

Independent materia locations

Independent materia are the misc category. Everything that didn’t fit into the other four groups ended up here. They’re purple.

  • Refocus materia – Aerith starts with it. More can be obtained through challenges in Shinra Tower. Unlocks Refocus limit break.
  • Deadly dodge materia – Found in Chapter 2, upper sector 8. Performs attack after dodging.
  • HP up materia – Found in upper Sector 8. Increases your maximum health.
  • MP up materia – Reward for killing 50 monsters in Chapter 3, then reporting to Katie in Sector 7 slums. Increases maximum MP.
  • Magic up materia – Found in Mako Reactor 5 during Chapter 7. Boosts the attack power of your magic attacks.
  • Luck up materia – Reward for winning at darts, given by Wedge in Chapter 4. Increases the luck stat.
  • EXP up materia – Reward for winning a three-person team versus team ragbag challenge in Shinra Tower in Chapter 16 or 17. Doubles the amount of EXP you gain in battle.
  • Gil up materia – Reward for winning a two-person team versus high flyers challenge in Shinra Tower in Chapter 16 or 17. Doubles the amount of gil you get from battles.
  • Auto-cure materia – Bought from Chadley for completing Battle Intel Report 1. Automatically casts cure on injured allies.
  • First strike materia – Bought from Chadley after completing Battle Intel Report 3. Increases the amount of ATB your start battles with.
  • Steadfast block materia – Bought from Chadley after Battle Intel Report 6. Gives more protection when blocking, as well as more ATB gain.
  • Provoke materia – Bought from Chadley after Battle Intel Report 8. When allies are injuredy, draw attention to yourself automatically.
  • Item master materia – Bought from Chadley after Battle Intel Report 11. Increases the efficiency of items in combat.
  • Parry materia – Bought from Chadley after Battle Intel Report 12. Helps you attack faster after blocking.
  • ATB assist materia – Bought from Chadley after Battle Intel Report 13. Allies get ATB when repeating commands.
  • ATB stagger materia- Bought from Chadley after Battle Intel Report 14. Gives more ATB when staggering enemies.
  • Skill master materia – Bought from Chadley after completing Battle Intel Report 17. Gives ATB when multiple ATB moves are performed.
