Shovel Location in No Rest for the Wicked

In our Shovel Location in No Rest for the Wicked guide, we are going to show you where you can find your first shovel in No Rest for the Wicked. Why is that important? Because very early on, you’ll find special resource “nodes” on the ground. They look like round cracks, kinda-sorta like gopher holes. And while it’s fine to leave them be, it’s always to one’s advantage to gather all the resources you can. So, about that shovel…

Where to Find a Shovel in No Rest for the Wicked

The earliest location of a vendor that will sell you a shovel in No Rest for the Wicked can be found in the Mess Hall area. If you don’t know where that is, we’ll show you in the screenshots below. Basically, it’s “below” the giant bonfire made of cart parts. The main problem, however, is that the door is locked, which means that you first have to find the Mess Hall key. To do that, head to the right until you get to the closed portcullis. From there, follow the path leading downward. You’ll reach a ledge with a corpse on it, and the key is on said corpse.

Go back to the Mess Hall, unlock the door and defeat the three guards. After that, you can talk to Fillmore, the first vendor you’ll come across in No Rest for the Wicked and the first location where you can buy a shovel. Specifically, a copper shovel for twenty copper pieces. It is the lowest tier of shovel, as far as I know, but it’ll do. Equip the shovel in your inventory and you’ll be able to dig for treasure whenever you come across the “gopher holes,” aka the cracks in the ground where you can dig out resources.

There are some reports that there’s a chest in the area that contains a free shovel, but we didn’t find it after trying twice. Later in the game, you’ll be able to find better shovels and perhaps even craft your own tools, so it is not a big deal if you don’t find it right away. That said, it’s probably best to get at least the most primitive shovel to get those early resources.
