Age of Calamity How to Shield Surf

To shield surf in Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity, there are two “techniques” you can use. The first one is more of a short burst, and is basically just one of the combo attacks that you can execute as Link. The combo we’re referring to is Y+Y+X. This method is not really meant for traversal. Rather, you can use this combo to slam into a group of enemies and send them flying out of your way. It can also help get you out of a tough situation, because it catapults you forward from a dead stop.

As for the second method you can use to shield surf in Age of Calamity, hold a direction for a second or two until your character starts running. You’ll know it’s happening when they put their weapons away. When that happens, tap X. This will make Link shield surf for a few seconds, and you can freely change direction while surfing. It does run out relatively quickly; however, if you keep holding a direction, you’ll retain momentum and still be running. So, you can just tap X to surf again. Rinse and repeat to basically surf forever.

And, well, there you have it, that’s how to shield surf in Age of Calamity. It’s cool that they used the mechanic from Breath of the Wild as both an attack and a method of traversal. Have fun using it!
