Monster Hunter Rise Will Let You Hunt a Big, Fat Platypus

If you were sad because the last Monster Hunter game didn’t come out on the Switch, we’ve got some good news for you. Monster Hunter Rise has just been announced, and it’s going to be released exclusively on the Switch. It’s coming out on March 26th 2021, and it’ll allow you to hunt a big, fat platypus, among other things. There’s a trailer that shows off some of the monsters you can expect, as well as the environments and many new features.

First off, your hunter will be voiced this time. I know, it’s a shock. If you manage to get your bearings after that dizzying reveal, you’ll notice some more novelties. It looks like the grappling hook will be able to attach to pretty much anything, which should help with both travel and combat. There’s also the matter of the dog. You’ll have a dog. I mean, Palico are nice and all, but this is a proper dog. The only unanswered question, one that could make or break the game, is whether you can pet it.

As for the monsters, they’re the usual assortment of dumb chickens, lizards and foxes with tongue-twisting names, but there’s also a chunky platypus this time and I’m already in love with it. They’ve all come out of the woodwork after fifty years, to once more bother the inhabitans of this new world, one that’s heavily inspired by Japan – both the nature and the architecture.

I’ve also spotted a new weapon in the trailer, an iron umbrella, but it was only there for a split second so I’m not sure how it’ll work. You can already preorder the game, and if you get the deluxe edition, you’ll get a layered armor for your hunter, Palico and Palamute (that’s the dog), as well as some emotes, face paint and a hair style.
