How to Get Settlement in Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord?

To get a settlement in Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord, you’re going to have to fight for it. You can approach the process in two ways. The first one is more direct, and is probably the way you should go. First, you have to go into a war with a faction. You do that by raiding their villages (in the Take a hostile action sub-menu) until they declare war on you. Then, go to the nearest castle and select “Besiege the castle.” Defend yourself until you build your siege camp. When it’s done, lead an assault or send your troops to attack your castle. If you’re successful, the settlement will be yours.

The other option is to become somebody’s vassal. Join them on their conquests, and you’ll get a castle as a reward eventually. In fact, you can get a number of castles as a vassal over time. However, if you want to go independent, it’s going to cause troubles. Namely, as soon as you break vassalship, odds are good that the faction you defect from will declare war on you. Especially if you keep everything you won as a vassal. In other words, if your goal is to have your own kingdom, don’t take this route.

However you get your hands on a castle, make sure you man it with a good garrison. Also, you’re going to have to appoint a governor; be careful who you post here. Make sure to check out their stats to see if they’ll do a good job. And, for that matter, be sure to scout out the castle you want to conquer to see if you can pull it off at all.
