Borderlands 3 Zane the Operative Character Trailer Released

Zane the Operative, one of the characters in Borderlands 3, got a character trailer. And, for once, it’s really great. The video does a pretty good job of highlighting both his gruff, yet lovable personality, as well as a glimpse of his special skills. I’m a sucker for these kinds of characters, so they kinda had me at hello.

Now, I’ve been bitching and moaning about how Borderlands 3 is trying way too hard to be cool, and I stand by that. That said, for this one, I have to hand it to them. Zane is one cool sumbitch. He’s a “semi-retired corporate hitman” with an attitude and a temper and drinking problem to match. Which, of course, means that he’s also Irish. Based purely on the trailer, I’m getting strong vibes of captain Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly, so that’s an automatic plus, as far as I’m concerned.

The trailer does a great job at showcasing both Zane’s abilities and his character, even though it’s a cinematic trailer. The announcement on the Borderlands website does go into a little more detail, though. One is Digi-Clone, where Zane summons a, well, digital clone of himself, and not just to have a drink. He can also summon a Barrier to shoot through, and also make use of the Hitman skill tree, which provides even more bonuses to different stuff. There’s more to it, but that’s the basic TL;DR.

Borderland 3 is launching on September 13th, 2019. You’ll have the option to pick it up on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC; although, it bears mentioning that it’ll be an Epic Store exclusive for six months after launch. Also, if you’re willing to risk getting into Google Stadia that early in its lifetime, you’ll also be able to play it there. Until then, you can check out Zane’s trailer below.
