FIFA 18 Launch Date Announced, No Journey Mode on Switch

FIFA 18 got an official worldwide release date – September 29. 2017. The game will launch on a wide array of platforms – PC, PlayStation 3 and 4, Xbox One and 360, and the Nintendo Switch. The game will, among other things, feature the second season of The Journey. For those new to the concept, The Journey is essentially the Story Mode, following the life of a young footballer Alex Hunter on his journey to fame and fortune. The name “The Journey: Hunter Returns” suggests that his story will continue in FIFA 18.

The game also got a reveal trailer, “fueled by Ronaldo”. As you can probably guess, the video stars Cristiano Ronaldo. It seems that the trailer was generated via the in-game engine, and it looks pretty impressive. The video also tells us that per-ordering FIFA 18 Ronaldo Edition will give you three-day early access to the game. You can check out the FIFA 18 reveal trailer below.

This is all fine and dandy, but, upon closer inspection of the fine print at the end of the trailer reveals that the new season of The Journey will only feature on the PS4, Xbox One and PC. That essentially means that Switch owners are going to get the short end of the stick compared to other console players. On top of that, the Frostbite engine is also exclusive to PC, Xbox One and PS4, truly leaving the Switch version in the dust. Yes, EA has stated before that the Switch version will be “custom built” for the Switch. What they forgot to mention was that the Switch version will be on par with the PS3 and Xbox 360.
