Is FIFA 23 cross-play? The last EA Sports football game which will bear the name of FIFA – FIFA 23 – has just been revealed by Electronic Arts. The next and the final instalment in the iconic football simulation series will come with numerous new features and improvements. This includes women’s club teams, HyperMotion2 technology, and much more. Of course, one of the biggest new additions is the full support for cross-platform play. How does crossplay work in FIFA 23 and which modes does it support? Read on to learn all the details.
FIFA 23 Crossplay & Cross-Platform
First tested in some modes of FIFA 22, the full support for cross-platform will be available in FIFA 23. This makes the iconic moment for the franchise, as this will be the first time in the series’ history that a FIFA game will offer full cross-play support. However, given the complexity of this system and all the intricacies of implementing it, there will be some minor limitations.
First off, there will be no cross-gen cross-play. This means that only PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Stadia, and PC versions of FIFA 23 will be cross-play compatible with one another, and PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of FIFA 23 will be cross-play compatible with one another. Below, we list which FIFA 23 components will have cross-play support:
- Division Rivals (except Co-Op)
- Ultimate Online Draft
- Online Friendlies (except Co-Op)
- Play a Friend
- Online Friendlies
- Online Seasons (except Co-Op Seasons)
As you can notice, only 1v1 modes will support cross-platform play, unfortunately. As EA states, “modes that pair players together such as Pro Clubs will not feature cross-play at this time. Cross-play will be turned on by default, but you can always choose to opt out if you wish so. In addition, the FUT Transfer Market will also include cross-platform functionality. However, it will be separated into three Transfer Markets. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Stadia will have a shared FUT Transfer Market Pool. On the other hand, the Switch version of the game and the PC version will have their own individual FUT Transfer Markets.
