Metal Gear Survive Trailer Shows Off Singleplayer With Commentary

Konami has released a new trailer for Metal Gear Survive, the first post-Kojima MG game. It’s a showcase of a bunch of stuff from the singleplayer portion, along with some useful commentary from the developers. The burning question here is: does anyone really care about Metal Gear without Kojima to helm the project? It’s not a particularly interesting universe – what made it special was Kojima being himself. Grumpy gamers around the globe have furiously smashed the dislike button on the new video – at the time of writing, it had around 500 likes and a little less than 2000 dislikes.

Metal Gear Survive Trailer Shows Off Singleplayer With Commentary

The story follows the events after XOF’s attack on Mother Base in Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes. Or at least, an alternate version of the events that follow. The story goes like this – immediately after the fateful attack, a wormhole opens up above Mother Base, pulling steel beams, debris, containers and our protagonist, Not Snake, into a parellel universe. Not Snake has survive the harsh environment of this new world by eating and drinking, hunting, building a base and fighting off zombies.

It’s like someone took the Metal Gear licence and a checklist of popular game features from five years ago and went crazy with them. And when I say crazy, I mean completely bland, risk-free, design-by-committee crazy. This is an executive’s wet dream right here. It has all the right buzzwords – survival, crafting, base building, zombies. Oh and there’s Nurse Quiet, who can talk. It may end up being a great game, but at this point, it looks like someone spent a whole lot of time making a really uninspiring MGSV total conversion mod.

If you’re interested in trying it, you’re in luck – there’s going to be an open beta for Playstation 4 and Xbox One users in January, a month ahead of the game’s February 20th release date.
