The new trailer for the upcoming psychological horror game by Camel 101, Those Who Remain, serves a double purpose. The first one is to, like any trailer, show you little bits and pieces of the game to get you interested. Mission statement 2 is to reveal the game’s May 26th release date.

Those Who Remain Release Date Trailer Revealed

So, what can we glean about Those Who Remain based on this trailer? Well, it seems like it takes a lot of inspiration from the likes of Alan Wake, Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Outlast. That to me is a bit of a played-out concept, but that’s fine. In the video, we see our protagonist running away from what appears to be a flesh golem made entirely of hands and feet, which is certainly unusual. Then, there’s your standard shadow people, hands from the walls, twitchy Samara Morgan cosplayers, all the usual suspects.

Then, there are the more surreal things that do kinda pique my interest. For one, there’s the monster with a searchlight for a head. That one legitimately freaks me out, as do all creatures that are a bizarre blend of organic and mechanic. Then, there is that brief sequence about forty seconds in where the game starts to look almost like a platformer. It’s so out of place and surreal that I can’t help but be curious. Other than that, it does kinda give me some déjà vu. Which doesn’t have to be a bad thing necessarily, of course.

Those Who Remain is coming out on Thursday, May 28th, 2020. You’ll be able to play it on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. There will apparently also be a Nintendo Switch version, due to come out later this summer. In the meantime, here’s the trailer for your viewing pleasure, just so you can see what you’re in for if you choose to pick Those Who Remain up.
