Pokemon GO Adds Slew of New Avatar Customization Options

One of the things that has always kinda rubbed me the wrong way about Pokemon GO were the relatively limited avatar customization options. Oh, sure, there were different outfits and whatnot, but when it came to actually deciding the look of your Trainer… Yeah, the pool was pretty shallow. Which is weird for a game that’s all about players meeting each other, right? Well, in what seems to be Niantic’s effort to revamp and refresh Pokemon GO, they will be giving players more options.

So, what are the new customization aspects Trainers will have access to? Well, the official post mentions “adjustable body weights, eye colors, and skin tones, plus new facial expressions and hairstyles.” You’ll be able to sort hairstyles in short, medium and long for easier navigation. Also, there are new sliders for weight, shoulders, hips, chest, and overall musculature. Oh, and more color options for eyes, hair and skin tone.

Accessing these new options is pretty easy. According to this Help Center post, all you have to do is tap your Trainer portrait on the map screen. Tap the Style icon, then Appearance. Some of the categories have additional options, which you can access by tapping the Custom button. Easy-peasy. Once you’re happy with all the changes you made, apply them and exit the editor. And don’t forget, there’s a brand new outfit that you can put on.

And you know what the best part is? This is not everything that Niantic are working on. According to the same post, there’s more coming. There are two points slated for April 22nd, called “Rediscover your world” and “Rediscover Kanto.” No idea what exactly that means for Trainers, but I’m definitely curious. Then, for May 7th, we have “Rediscover your reality,” which I assume means they’re reworking the AR, too. We’ll have to wait and see.
