How to Catch Shiny Genesect in Pokemon GO

EDIT: According to our reader CaptJakesparrow, only Genesect without a drive can be shiny. So, the Genesect with the Chill Drive apparently cannot actually have a shiny version.

To catch a shiny Genesect in Pokemon GO, your best bet is usually to wait for it to appear in Raids or for it to feature in some sort of event. Fortunately for you, both are kinda happening in August 2022. The Bug Out event is kicking off on August 10th at 10 AM local time, and will wrap up on August 18th at 8 PM local time. During this event, Genesect with the Chill Drive will be featured in five-star Raids. That’s not a lot of time, so you’ll have to prepare ahead of time. If you need help with defeating it, you can check out our Genesect Counters, Weakness & Best Moveset guide. Incidentally, Mega Scizor will star in the Mega Raids over the course of Bug Out, so look forward to that.

Now, if you’re on a quest to catch a shiny Genesect in Pokemon GO, know that it’s very rare. No surprise there; this is the case with all shiny Pokemon. So, you’re going to have to do a lot of looking around Gyms until you find what you’re looking for. On the bright side, the shiny Genesect is easy to tell apart form the regular version, considering it’s bright red instead of purple. You can see what it looks like in the image above. That said, the Genesect with the Chill Drive has never been in Pokemon GO before. At least, not as far as I know. Therefore, even if it isn’t shiny, you should catch at least a few if you can.
