Back in March, Niantic CEO John Hanke gave an interview to Germany’s Wired (via Nintendo Everything). In the interview, when asked about Mew, Mewtwo and the elemental birds, he said:

I can say with certainty that we will see more of that this year.

However, so far, nothing has been done about it yet. There hasn’t been any mention of the Legendary Pokemon; not even dataminers have found even a hint of them in the updates so far. However, they might be arriving to Pokemon GO this summer.

Recently, Pokemon GO won the 21st annual Webby award for best mobile game, among other awards. Archit Bagrava, Niantic marketing lead, accepted the award and gave a short but very enticing acceptance speech. All he said was:

This summer will be legendary.

It’s hard not to read into this as a hint at the long-awaited arrival of Legendary Pokemon in Pokemon GO; the wording is so particular. After all, the elemental birds have been in the game as symbols of the teams (Team Mystic is Articuno, Team Instinct is Zapdos and Team Valor is Moltres). Hopefully, we’ll also be able to catch Mew and Mewtwo, as well. WE’ll just have to wait and see; and we’ll keep you posted as (and if) more information becomes available.

While we’re waiting, we can still enjoy the ongoing Pokemon GO Adventure Week event. The event is largely based upon the increased spawn rate of rock-type Pokemon, such as Onyx, Kabuto, and even Aerodactyl. On top of that, Poke Balls are on 50% discount, and PokeStops give out more items.
