How to Open Braided Rope Barriers in Shadow of the Tomb Raider – Knife Upgrade Location

To cut open Braided Ropes in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, you have to get the Knife Upgrade. The easiest location where you can find the Knife Upgrade to get to is a merchant in the Hidden City, an area you’ll eventually reach after going through enough story missions. The merchant in question is in the central part of the Hidden City. You can get to her pretty simply from the Paititi Market base camp; she’s just to the northeast of the base camp. The game will helpfully mark her for you. All you have to do is just casually waltz over there.

This vendor sells a ton of valuable stuff, and you might consider getting some of her other wares while you’re there. This time around, though, we only care about the Knife Upgrade. It will set you back 2900 Gold Pieces, and, by know, you should have more than enough. Pick it up, and now you can cut open the Rope Barriers.

Where to Find Knife Upgrade in Shadow of the Tomb Raider?

Another place where you can find the Knife Upgrade in the game is during the Rebellion Lives main story mission, once you get to the Enter the Temple of Kukulkan step. You’ll have a quest giver, a little girl called Kayara, who gives you the side mission Rescue Hakan. Accept the quest. You’re next step is to distract the guards by convincing one citizen nearby to blow the horn, and another to start drumming. Then try to open the door. Two men should come to your aid, and you’ll be able to go inside.

Once inside the prison cell, release Hakan. Break down the wall in the room to exit through to the other side. This will complete the mission, basically, and you’ll get the Knife Upgrade as a reward.
