To drink water when you are thirsty in Sons of the Forest, you need to find a source of fresh water. Later on as you play, you will get the ability to create water collectors and water skins to carry it around. At the beginning, you will have to make do with natural sources. Take out your GPS and look for a river (or stream or whatever). Since you wash up at the edge of the sea, the mouth should be somewhere nearby. Walk upstream and, when you’ve gotten a decent distance away from the salt water, walk into the stream. You will get a prompt in the middle of the screen. Press and hold E until the animation plays out. Rinse and repeat as necessary.

There you have it, that’s how you drink water when you are thirsty in Sons of the Forest. It’s pretty easy, all things considered. Now, with that said, not all sources of water are made equal. In the beginning, stick you stream water until you manage to build a water collector for rainwater. Try and build your base in a place that allows you reasonably safe access to the river.
