The people over at DICE have decided to nerf heroes in Star Wars Battlefront 2. The reason behind the decision is twofold. For one, they want to give players more of a chance to defeat them, and not just end up in the meat grinder. Also, making heroes less powerful will add more variety to the matches and emphasize team work.
Bernd Diemer, creative director over at DICE, recently had an interview with PC Gamer. He talked about Star Wars Battlefront 2; specifically, about the hero system and the changes that they’re implementing to it. In the previous game, heroes were incredibly powerful characters that ordinary ones had an almost zero chance to fend off. This time around, they’re changing their approach.
In the previous Battlefront, it was either players that scored the most kills or just plain lucky players got to play as heroes. DICE then changed that so that more people can play as heroes. That further tipped the scales, since it was difficult enough to fight one hero, let alone more. Therefore, matches would sometimes turn into epic showdowns between heroes, while those playing as regular characters just watched from the sidelines. How are they going to improve the game? Through enforcing teamwork:
We thought, how can we give you more tools so you’re able to hold your own against a hero, at least for a certain time? And the best answer we could come up with was team play. How can you make team play more attractive? And the obvious answer is by classes, because it’s so natural that if you’re playing classes, you look for your buddies so you have a good mix of what you together feel comfortable playing.
There you have it. The best strategy to fight off hero characters will be to team up with your teammates and gang up on the hero. Additionally, leveling up your trooper and the many gadgets and abilities will also play a large role. That way, heroes will no longer be the win-the-match wild cards they were before, especially once they get nerfed.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 will come out on November 17th, 2017. You’ll be able to pick it up on the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Check out our article on Star Wars Battlefront 2 preorder & Deluxe Edition bonuses to find out what you can get packaged with the game.
