How to Switch Characters Tales of Arise

Switching characters in Tales of Arise is a mechanic that you’re going to have to master in order to play the game effectively. This can get a little complicated, because you have to figure out how to change characters both in combat and in the overworld. And you have to know how to swap characters on the fly in combat in order to maximize your odds of emerging victorious. How to Switch Characters in Battle – Tales of Arise

To switch characters in battle in Tales of Arise, there are a couple of options at your disposal. For one, on PlayStation and Xbox, you can hold L1/LB and then use the d-pad to select the character you want. Just press the direction of the character you want to use. Just check which character the little flag is on, that’ll show you which one is marked.

The second way to swap characters in battle is to pause the game and select the character you want to switch to in the menu. On consoles, press the touchpad to bring up the menu and then use L1 and R1/LB and RB to cycle between your heroes. Fairly simple.

The third option is to use the Edit menu. During battle, open the pause menu and press R1 to bring up the one where you can edit your party. Hit Square (or whatever your equivalent is) until the little flag is on the portrait of the character that you want to use. Keep in mind that the swapped character will first complete their queued actions before bowing out.

Tales of Arise How to Change Characters in Overworld

To change characters in the overworld in Tales of Arise, there are again several options. To switch characters outside of battle in Tales of Arise, enter the pause menu and look for the little green flag next to the character name. That denotes which character you’re playing as in the overworld. Press Square (or your equivalent) until the flag is on the character you want to use.

The second option is to once again use the Edit menu. It works exactly as it does when you’re in combat. Bring up the Edit menu and keep pressing Square until the flag is on the character you want to switch to.

One thing that we have to mention about switching characters – the hero you have selected to play as in the overworld won’t automatically change the character you’ll be controlling in combat, and vice versa. These are completely separate, and the game will swap characters automatically when you enter a fight. Keep that in mind.
