The Last of Us 2 Gameplay Reveal Trailer Released at E3 2018

Sony and Naughty Dog have released a gameplay reveal trailer for The Last of Us 2 during this year’s E3. The game still doesn’t have a release date, but the trailer makes it look amazing. Not only do the graphics look fantastic, but the video does a good job to sell the inherent tragedy and brutality of the Last of Us universe.

The Last of Us 2 Gameplay Reveal Trailer Released at E3 2018

The Last of Us 2 is definitely going to live up to its predecessor, if the gameplay reveal trailer from E3 2018 is anything to go buy. It’s equal parts apocalyptic horror and humanizing moments, as any good story like The Last of Us needs in order to be good. Now, this is just the trailer, so we shouldn’t let us get carried away, but I kinda can’t help it.

For one, the trailer is horrifyingly brutal, and heartbreaking at the same time. It opens on a dance party the day before Ellie goes out on patrol. Her and another girl Dina share a tender moment. It’s like a spark of hope in a world that has devolved into chaos. The video then harshly cuts to Ellie violently killing somebody. Sure, it’s a bad guy, but still. If you look closely, you can see that Ellie is wearing the bracelet that Dina wore at the dance. So, you can imagine that something went horribly wrong there.

After the gruesome murder, we then get to the gameplay section. It seems like it will play fairly similar to the first Last of Us. It’s a pretty tense section, with a fair dose of gore, evisceration included. We get to see Ellie sneaking around, shooting guns, firing arrows for stealth kills, using glass bottles that are lying about, melee weapons, and so on. Not only is it tense, but the combat feels uncomfortably crunchy. It really drives the feeling of a brutal reality home. After the last execution, we flash back to the dance party, now with an obvious dose of tragedy. The release date for The Last of Us 2 is still TBA, but personally, I can’t wait for it to arrive.
