Zelda BoTW Trial of The Sword Tips & Tricks

Trial of The Sword is a new challenge in Zelda Breath of The Wild. It’s part of the Master Trials DLC. You can start it in Korok Forest, and it will strip you naked and send you to fight waves of increasingly difficult enemies. Once you beat it, the sword will get 60 attack, improved durability and a blue glow, but it won’t make Master Sword unbreakable. It won’t be easy, though. Not by a long shot. In this guide, we’re going to give you some Trial of the Sword tips & tricks, to help you prepare.

Master Sword Trial Tips

Here’s some advice on how to approach the trial:

  • Use bombs whenever possible. You start with no equipment – just your runes. This means you have to worry about ammo and weapon conservation, once you’ve got something to conserve.
  • Try to create a height advantage whenever you can – if there are trees in the level, climb them. They might not always provide advantage, but they’ll at least give you a moment of respite.
  • Tune your sensor to treasure chests – it will help you find more equipment, including a bunch of ancient arrows.
  • There are 45 rooms, with checkpoints after the first and second set of 15. You can restart from checkpoints when you die, but you’ll start with no weapons.
  • Whenever you see a leaf bed, sleep in it for a health refill.
  • Save up your rusty weapons – you’ll run into octorocks at some point. Throw the rust weapons at them, and they’ll spit out brand new versions of em.
  • Don’t forget to use your shields. You need to take as little damage as possible.
  • Try to keep at least one of each elemental weapon with you at all times.
  • Any buffs you gain from food will last into the trial. Eat something nice before you start the trial – it’ll give you a leg up.
  • Each of the three parts of the trial will upgrade your Master Sword a bit.
  • If you can’t find cover and there are archers in the room, just keep moving.
  • Pick off the weaker enemies first – a clean arena is much easier to fight in than a crowded one.
  • Although you’ll be tempted to use ancient arrows on Guardians, they’re better saved for Lynels. Guardians are just about manageable without the arrows, Lynels aren’t.
