How to Unlock Alternate Shield Skins in God of War – Aspis of Spartan Fury & Radiant Shield of Unity

To get the different shield skins in God of War, you have to complete the main story of the game on Give Me God of War difficulty. The two shields mentioned above are available for all to unlock; these two aren’t part of the bunch you could get in the Deluxe Edition of God of War. Of course, this is easier said than done, as completing God of War on the highest difficulty is pretty damn difficult.

So, for completing the game on Give Me God of War, aside from bragging rights, you can get two awesome-looking shield skins. They don’t appear to do anything gameplay-wise; they just look cool. The Aspis of Spartan Fury, to me, is the cooler of the two, because it ties in further with Kratos’s dark past. First off, in the real world, an aspis was a heavy infantry shield in ancient Greece. On the inside, the shield has a menacing, dull, red glow. On the front, it has the Spartan Lambda sign drawn in blood.

The other shield, the Radiant Shield of Unity, is more of a kind of payoff for Tyr’s subplot the game keeps hinting at. The shield bears several blue-glowing Triquetra symbols from Celtic mythology. It’s not that strange a choice, considering that the game makes it clear that Tyr has visited many different cultures. While the Aspis of Spartan Fury is a reminder of Kratos’s dark past, the Shield of Unity is a glimpse of a hopeful future.
